About five minute's drive (or a 40-minute walk) is the historic port of Charlestown, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the last open 18th-Century Georgian harbour in the UK - with classic tall ships, beautiful beaches, great places to eat and drink, and a filming location for not just the BBC's 'Poldark', but over 100 other film and TV series over the years. Above the harbour itself stands the Shipwreck Treasure Museum, with a wealth of artefacts and details of more than 150 shipwrecks.

Restormel Castle - 6.4 Miles (10.3 Km)

The great 13th-century circular shell-keep of Restormel still encloses the principal rooms of the castle in remarkably good condition. It stands on an earlier Norman mound surrounded by a deep dry ditch, atop a high spur beside the River Fowey. Twice visited by the Black Prince, it finally saw action during the Civil War in 1644. It commands fantastic views and is a favourite picnic spot.

10 minutes walk down the hill from Penarth Guest House, many of our guests have enjoyed tasty food at Waves and The Britannia Inn, and highly recommended it as a great place to eat - the menu is available in both the restaurant and lounge areas.

Biscovey Fish Bar

Biscovey Fish Bar

Directly across the road from us is the Biscovey Fish Bar, where on Friday and Saturday evenings excellent traditional fish 'n chips can be bought. Our dining room is available for our guests who wish to bring back takeway food - we'll supply plates and cutlery if required, and even do the washing-up!
